Letter from Nami NC Affiliate
Alamance/Caswell/Rockingham Implementation Update #39
Dear Sir/Madame:
This letter is on behalf of NAMI ACR Affiliate. We seriously
question the merit of Implementation Update #39 as it relates to
Community Support Services. The infrastructure referred to in the
Update will in our view put the small providers out of business and
make the large providers larger. Much of our state is rural and the
big providers as they have already demonstrated want only the most
populated areas.
Community support is in our view the single most important deterrent
on keeping the mentally ill out of hospitals and it is a much more
cost effective way to go.
Our mismanaged Division of MH/DD/SA says some providers are billing
for services not rendered or in other words cheating. They also are
up set that those doing the support work are only high school
graduates plus required hours of training. In our view the
dishonest should not be tolerated. They should be identified,
warned and if they do not comply-shut them down. This is a job for
the LME and we should let them do it with full support of the
Division.
If the Division eliminate community support the repercussions will
be more hospitalizations and incarcerations.
