PUBLIC MEETINGS

One of the main objectives of the State Plan for the public mental health services system is to make it possible for people with mental illness to live meaningful and satisfying lives in communities of their choice. To achieve this end, a comprehensive network of community based supports, treatment and services must be made available. The Division of MH/DD/SAS will hold three public meetings to share information on the expansion of community based mental health services and the downsizing of the State's four psychiatric hospitals.

During these meetings, Division staff will outline the schedule, process and funding for bringing up community based services and supports. Information will also be provided on the process for transitioning clients from institution to community care, along with the schedule for reducing the number of beds in the State hospitals and the associated transfer of funds from the institutions to the communities.

To encourage attendance by family members and consumers, the meetings will be held during the evening hours.
